- On June 4, 1987, one of the greatest streaks in amateur athletics came to an end when Danny Harris defeated Edwin Moses (who had won 122 consecutive races) in the 400 hurdles at a meet in Spain
- The seven-time All-American won a dozen Big Eight individual titles, three NCAA championships and four Drake Relays titles
- Never lost a 400 hurdles race (37 straight) in college
- Member of five Big Eight championship teams in indoor and outdoor track & field
- Originally signed to play football for the Cyclones, he ended his gridiron career after earning a silver medal in the 1984 Olympics (Los Angeles)
- Won the 1986 U.S. Championships in the 400 hurdles and placed second at the 1987 World Championship
