- Compiled a 30-3-1 record for the Cyclones while winning a Big Eight title and finishing as the NCAA runner-up (167 pounds)
- A three-time All-American at LSU before transferring to Iowa State when the Tigers dropped the sport
- Fulfilled his personal dream of winning Olympic Gold Medal with a 1-0 overtime win over Elmade Jabraiilov at the 1992 games in Barcelona
- The two-time World Champion was inducted into the FILA International and U.S. National Wrestling Halls of Fame
- Served as USA Wrestling Freestyle Coach for eight years and helped Cael Sanderson to an Olympic Gold Medal in 2004
