Starred in multiple sports before working in the department’s development office (becoming Director of the National Cyclone Club in 1985)
Played defensive end for two years, he moved to receiver as a senior and led the Big Seven in receiving (33-548) on the way to earning all-league honors
Standout swimmer, he competed on an All-America 400-yard freestyle relay team that set a league record
Won the Big Seven 100-yard freestyle event two times
Iowa State’s 1952 Athlete of the Year, he was also named Cy’s Favorite Alum in 1992 for his contributions to the school after graduation
