First Cyclone to win an Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) national title when she took the 1975 cross country championship
Her time (15:41.69) at the inaugural AIAW cross country meet was a world record
Set world records in the 5,000 (at the Drake Relays) and 10,000 meters (AAU Nationals) in 1977
Added AIAW national championships in the two- and three-mile runs in 1976 to earn the meet’s “Outstanding Performer” award
Neither Neppel (as an individual) nor her team ever lost a cross country meet, winning AIAW national titles from 1975-77
A six-time Big Eight champ, she led ISU to conference track championships both indoors and outdoors in 1974 and 1975
Neppel died of complications from pneumonia while battling cancer (age 28)
