Burst onto the national scene when he won the discus at the 1981 Big Eight Championship (to become the first Iowa collegian to surpass 200 feet)
Earned Iowa State’s first individual NCAA outdoor track championship (206-3 in the discus) in 38 years as the Cyclones finished eighth as a team in 1981
Set a school record (211-9) in the discus at the 1982 Texas Relays but elbow tendinitis ended his season and, ultimately, his competitive career
Set the national prep record in the discus (207-8) at Mason City High School
