Won 96.7% of his college matches (116-3-2), trailing only Cael Sanderson and Dan Gable in ISU history
Named Amateur Wrestling News Freshman-of-the-Year after entering the NCAA Championship undefeated before finishing fifth
An undefeated (29-0) sophomore season earned him a NCAA Championship and helped the Cyclones win the team title and end Iowa’s nine-year reign
As a junior, he suffered a knee injury at the league meet but battled his way to the national title match where he dropped a 2-1 overtime decision (stopping a 56-match win streak) while virtually wrestling on one leg
After three off-season surgeries, his senior year included a 30-0 record, the “Outstanding Wrestler” Award at the 1989 NCAA Championship and Big Eight Athlete of the Year honors
