AMES, Iowa (AP) - Stevie Johnson matched his career high 20 points and Iowa State tied a school record for most consecutive victories with an 86-81 victory over Missouri Saturday.
Johnson scored 14 points in the second half and came away with 10 rebounds to lead Iowa State to its 10th consecutive win, matching the record set by a 1996-97 team which opened the season with 10 straight wins.
Marcus Fizer added 18 points to the Iowa State attack, including 16 in the first half, as all Iowa State starters scored in double figures. Kantrail Horton, making his first start since breaking a finger bone Dec. 22 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, scored 15 points, Jamaal Tinsley finished with 11 points and Michael Nurse added 10. Tinsley completed play with a triple double, adding 11 rebounds and 11 assists.
The Cyclones (13-2 overall, 1-0 Big 12) raced away to a 17-3 lead as Missouri made only two field goals in its first 15 attempts. The Tigers (7-6, 0-1) warmed up with 10 field goals in their next 14 attempts but never got closer than four points.
Iowa State led by as many as 16 points in the first half before settling for a 42-30 halftime lead.
Missouri, led by Clarence Gilbert's 26 points, used four consecutive 3-pointers, three by Gilbert and one from Keyon Dooling, to close to within six, 55-49, with 15 minutes left. But Johnson capped a run of eight consecutive points with a layup and Tinsley added a free throw as Iowa State went ahead 58-49.
Dooling's three with 13 seconds to play made it an 83-79 game, but Iowa State put the contest out of reach with a free throw from Nurse and two by Horton. Brian Grawer drove the lane for a basket at the buzzer to close out the scoring.
