Iowa State junior Shelly Kringen scored a perfect 10.0 on the vault to become the first ISU gymnast ever to do so in that event and only the second in history on any event. The only other 10.0 performance was that of former Cyclone gymnast and current assistant coach Kim Mazza on floor exercise at the Big 12 Gymnastics Championship of 1997. Kringen's vault took first place and she earned the Most Outstanding Cyclone Gymnast of the meet. In other action, Kringen placed first on the balance beam with a career-high 9.925, second on the floor exercise with a 9.925 and third in the all-around with a 38.900.
