AMES, Iowa (AP) - Jake Sullivan scored 17 points and held Drake's Luke McDonald in check with solid defense as Iowa State beat the Bulldogs 76-55 Sunday.
McDonald, Drake's No. 2 scorer with a 15.2 average and the team's best outside shooter, was held to eight points on 2-for-11 shooting. He made only 1-of-6 3-point shots after scoring 27 points in a victory over Iowa State last season.
Tim Barnes added 16 points for Iowa State (8-1), Adam Haluska scored 13 and Marcus Jefferson 12. Iowa State shot 60.4 percent (32-for-53) while holding Drake to 37 percent (20-of-54).
Greg Danielson led Drake (5-5) with 18 points and nine rebounds. J.J. Sola scored nine for the Bulldogs, who have defeated Iowa State three straight times at home but have not won in Ames since 1978.
The Cyclones outrebounded Drake 34-27, the first time this season the Bulldogs have been beaten on the boards.
Iowa State never trailed, jumping to a 9-0 lead as Drake missed its first six shots. Drake pulled to 23-17 on McDonald's lone 3-pointer, his 67th straight game with at least one 3. But the Bulldogs missed their next 10 shots and Iowa State pulled away for good.
