AMES, Iowa (AP) - Seneca Wallace threw three touchdown passes and Hiawatha Rutland ran for 138 yards as Iowa State cruised to a 58-6 victory over Tennessee Tech on Saturday night.
As expected, Iowa State (2-1) had no trouble with the Division I-AA Golden Eagles (0-2) in what turned out to be little more than a tuneup for next Saturday's game at Iowa.
It was the most points by an Iowa State team since a 64-9 victory over Indiana State in 1986.
Iowa State scored on its first five possessions and got two touchdowns when it wasn't on offense to build a 37-0 lead less than 21 minutes into the game.
Sophomore Todd Miller returned a punt 60 yards for his first collegiate touchdown and freshman Steve Paris scored on a 24-yard interception return. The Cyclones also recovered a fumble on a kickoff to set up a field goal.
Wallace wasn't sharp but still completed 12 of 19 passes for 230 yards with one interception. He left the game after firing a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jamaul Montgomery to make it 51-6 with 5:07 remaining in the third quarter.
Wallace also hit Montgomery on a 47-yard touchdown pass earlier in the third quarter and threw a 38-yard pass to Lane Danielsen for the Cyclones' first touchdown.
Rutland, who carried 17 times, scored on a 1-yard run and set up Wallace's final touchdown pass with a 41-yard burst to the Tennessee Tech 20.
Tennessee Tech, 0-14 against Division I-A schools, stalled with its no-huddle offense and didn't cross midfield until about four minutes remained in the first half.
That drive ended with a punt, but the Golden Eagles got the ball back at the Iowa State 49 on Donnel Horton's interception. Robert Craft then threw a 1-yard touchdown to a wide open Beau Fullerton with 11 seconds left in the half.
Any momentum the Golden Eagles gained from that score was quickly erased when Iowa State sacked Craft for a 10-yard loss on the fourth play of the second half.
