LAWRENCE, Kan. ? Katie Williams scored in the 38th minute as Kansas (6-9-4, 4-2-3 Big 12) defeated the Iowa State (8-6-3, 4-4-1 Big 12) soccer team, 1-0, Sunday at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.
The lone marker of the game came off a corner kick by Jessica Bush. Kaitlyn Cunningham deflected the ball to Williams, who headed it past the Cyclones' Ann Gleason.
Gleason (8-6-3) made three saves in the loss. Kansas goalkeeper Colleen Quinn (6-9-4) made four saves in the shutout.
The Jayhawks outshot the Cyclones, 12-6, while shots on goal were tied, 4-4. Kansas had a 10-4 advantage on corners.
The loss makes the Cyclones' final game of the season, a road match Friday afternoon at Nebraska, pivotal. ISU can finish no higher than the No. 5 seed in the Big 12 Tournament, but has already clinched a berth. The eight-team field is set with Texas A&M clinching the regular-season title and the accompanying top seed.
Missouri holds the No. 2 spot with 18 points, while Texas is nipping at the Tigers' heels with 17 points. Texas Tech has 16 points and has played its final game of the regular season.
The Cyclones currently are tied for seventh with Oklahoma State at 13 points. ISU possesses the head-to-head tie-breaker with the Cowgirls. Kansas and Colorado, a pair of teams the Cyclones have been defeated by this season, each have 15 points.
A win at NU would give ISU 16 points. KU and CU would each have to lose to Missouri and Texas, respectively, for the Cyclones to move ahead of either team.
