Relay, Kosuda 10th at NCAA

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The Iowa State track and field teams concluded their indoor seasons in the Randal Tyson Track Center at the NCAA Track and Field Championships. The men's track and field 4 x 400-meter relay finished 10th while Agata Kosuda placed 10th in the triple jump for the women's track and field team.

The relay squad, consisting of junior Tony Stanfield, senior Elijah Braimah, senior Jared Graham and sophomore Jared Lewis ran a 3:09.03 in its section. Stanfield, who ran the lead leg after sophomore Gabe Kimpson suffered an injury before traveling to Fayetteville, put ISU in second place after the first leg. Braimah then took the lead and Graham maintained first place. Lewis lost his footing but still led the Cyclones to a respectable time.

“The inexperience with this track really hurt us,” men's track and field head coach Steve Lynn said. “The guys were here and they know they belong, I'm proud of what they've done this year and I'm anxious for the outdoor season.”

Baylor won the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:04.24. Five of the 11 squads competing in the event were from the Big 12.

Wisconsin took the men's NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championship title, compiling 40 points over the competition.

Kosuda jumped a distance of 42-06 good enough to put her in the top 10. Kosuda qualified last week at the ISU NCAA Qualifier to ensure her place in Saturday's competition.

Arizona State won the women's Indoor Track and Field National Championship after racking up 38 points during the weekend.

The Cyclones begin the outdoor track and field season on March 15 with the Emporia State Spring Twilight in Emporia, Kan.
