“I thought we wrestled well,” Sanderson said. “The guys who stepped in to fill the gaps did a good job. I tell them I hope they are having fun while they do this. I think overall we are right where we want to be at this time of the season.”

The Cyclones recorded 24 takedowns to Arizona State's 15. ISU was aggressive working towards a pin, tallying six near falls. Including ISU's victory over Wisconsin on Friday, the Cyclones piled up 40 takedowns on the weekend.
Iowa Stater Tyler Clark was able to score an upset in his 125-pound against No. 8 Anthony Robles, 9-3. Clark overcame an early takedown by Robles to score nine straight points, with Robles adding another point for riding Clark the majority of the opening period.
Fifth-ranked 133-pounder Nick Fanthorpe scored bonus points for a second time in three days as he put together a technical fall victory over Arizona State's Tyler Bowles in 6:55, 22-5. Fanthorpe's offense was too much in the match, as he tallied six takedowns over the match, as well two three-point nearfalls and one of the two-point variety. Jon Reader, the third ranked wrestler in the country at 165 pounds, proved to be too much for ASU's Kyle DeBerry. Reader notched five takedowns as he dominated the match from the neutral position on his way to a 16-7 major decision.
Those in Hilton Coliseum were treated to flashbacks of one of the Cyclone's all-time greats, three-time NCAA champion Nate Carr Sr. The elder Carr's son, Nate Carr Jr., got the start for ISU at 157 pounds and did not disappoint in his first Hilton appearance for the Cyclones. Carr Jr. sped to an early takedown at the 2:39 mark in the first period and did not slow down for his opponent, Jarrad Trulson, on his way to a 10-3 decision.
Joe Curran also had flashbacks on Sunday night. Curran was in a familiar place back in the 197-pound starting spot, where he wrestled his true freshman year. Curran showed he was the more experienced wrestler in his match against the Sun Devil's Thor Moen. Curran nagged his opponent with the threat of a cradle early on in the match and was able to close out the victory by decision 8-3.
ISU's Duke Burk was able to make his Hilton Coliseum debut a good one in his win by decision of the Sun Devil's Eric Starks. The 174-pound matchup started with Burk being on the wrong side of a 1-2 score at the end of the first period. Burk took complete control in the third period after Starks elected to start in the neutral position scoring two takedowns to propel him to an 8-4 win.
One lone match was not decided in regulation, as redshirt freshman 184-pounder Jerome Ward found himself looking at a 4-4 tie at the end of the third period against Arizona State's Jake Meredith. Ward was able to bring in a single-leg shot attempt at the 0:38 mark in sudden victory to get the win, 6-4.
The Cyclone grapplers are off until a Dec. 6 meeting with intrastate rival, Iowa, at 7 p.m. in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. ISU will then be off to Fargo, N.D. for a double-dual with North Dakota State and Dickinson State Dec. 13. Start times are 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
