AMES, Iowa ? Senior James Galvan captured first place in the 800-meter run Saturday, highlighting competition for the Cyclones at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif.
Galvan finished with a time of 1:49.9. ISU senior Michael Alexander finished eighth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:53.94. Junior Robbie Utterback placed seventh in the discus throw (169-1), while freshman Zack Richards finished ninth in the hammer throw (175-5).

Sophomore Luke Pinkelman highlighted competition at the Mount Sac Relays Saturday for the Cyclones. Pinkelman finished seventh in the shot put (57-1 ?.). Early Saturday morning, Kiel Uhl finished second in the University-College Open 5,000-meters in a personal best 13:55.87
