AMES, Iowa -Tyrus McGee poured in 16 points from off the bench to help Iowa State (4-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12) defeat North Carolina A&T (1-4, 0-0 MEAC), 86-57 Tuesday night in Hilton Coliseum.
McGee buried four 3-pointers for the third game in a row, as the Cyclones connected on 11 treys in the victory. Iowa State has made 10 or more 3-pointers in three-straight games.
Both teams struggled out of the gates. Iowa State missed its first five shots and NCAT misfired on its first 14 attempts.
ISU clung to a 19-14 lead with 6:31 left in the first half until recording a 19-3 run to end the half. McGee had eight points in the run and led the Cyclones with 10 first-half points, as ISU went into intermission with a 38-17 lead.
The Aggies shot just 16.1 percent from the field in the opening period.
Iowa State broke the game wide open with a 12-2 run midway through the second half. Chris Babb had five points in the run to help the Cyclones go ahead, 69-38 with under nine minutes left in the contest.
Iowa State's lead grew to 38 points (82-44) with just over five minutes remaining in the game.
Will Clyburn recorded 14 points and seven rebounds and Georges Niang tallied 14 points in the victory. Both Clyburn and Niang have scored in double figures in all four games.
ISU held a huge advantage on the boards at 53-30. Melvin Ejim grabbed 10 caroms to lead the Cyclones in his 13th double-digit rebounding performance of his career.
The Cyclones will travel to Las Vegas, Nev., to participate in the final rounds of the Global Sports Classic, Nov. 23-24. Iowa State faces No. 22 Cincinnati at 5:30 p.m. CT on Friday. The game will be shown on CBS Sports Network.
