Keys of the Game
A back-and-forth affair was decided on the game's final possession as Rose hit the game-winner with three seconds left to give Texas the win.
The Rose field goal came after Sam Richardson led the Cyclones on a brilliant six-play, 75-yard drive in 51 seconds to tie it up. Richardson hit Bibbs for the game-tying score, but the Longhorns had one more strike in them.
After a wild first half, the third quarter included just a pair of field goals, one by each team. Cole Netten's 21-yarder tied the school record for consecutive field goals made with 11.
In the fourth quarter, Texas went back on top with a Malcolm Brown rushing TD. That play was eventually answered when Aaron Wimberly went into the end zone from eight yards out to tie it at 38. Texas scored again 1:19 left but the Cyclones had another answer with the Richardson-to-Bibbs strike.
In the opening half, the Longhorns jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead with 7:22 left in the first quarter, but the Cyclones responded scoring the next three touchdowns. Bibbs hauled in a four-yard pass from Richardson to cut the deficit to a TD. Jevohn Miller then returned a Texas' fumble 51 yards for a score to tie it at 14-14. On ISU's next offensive possession, Lazard caught a fade from Richardson and the Cyclones went up 21-14.
The Longhorns responded with a pair of touchdowns, including a 74-yard interception return by Dylan Haines with 2:50 left. Richardson and the Cyclones quickly answered with a 13-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in a five-yard TD run from Richardson to tie it at 28-28 with three seconds left in the half.
