AMES, Iowa – No. 7 Baylor raced out to a 35-7 halftime lead and defeated Iowa State 49-28 Saturday night at Jack Trice Stadium.
Keys of the Game
Baylor proved why it entered the game with the nation's top-ranked offense, rattling off 601 yards on 97 plays. Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty finished 30-of-44 passing for 336 yards and one touchdown. The Bears rushing attack netted 244 yards, led by Shock Linwood's 82 yards and three touchdowns. Petty added a pair of rushing touchdowns and Johnny Jefferson had another touchdown on the ground.
Offensive Players of Note...
Sam Richardson did most of his damage on the ground, finishing with 99 yards, which included a 47-yard scamper for a score in the third quarter. Richardson also completed 17-of-39 passes for 212 yards and two touchdown strikes.
Richardson hit Dondre Daley for 11 yards and a TD that cut the Baylor lead to 14-7 in the first quarter. Richardson also had a 51-yard strike to Tad Ecby in the fourth quarter. Richardson now has 24 career touchdown passes, which ties for seventh in school history.
Jarvis West led the Cyclones with five catches for 37 yards.
Defensive Players of Note...
Jevohn Miller and Luke Knott finished with career highs of 17 and 15 tackles, respectively. T.J. Mutcherson had an interception for the Cyclones, his second of the game.
The Cyclones held Baylor scoreless in the fourth quarter, snapping the Bears' streak of consecutive quarters with a touchdown at 15.
Cyclone Quick Hits
*Jauan Wesley and Martinez Syria made their collegiate debuts for the Cyclones. Syria rushed for 15 yards on eight carries.
*Mutcherson had his second interception in as many games. He is the first Cyclone with interceptions in back-to-back games since Jacques Washington in 2012.
*E.J. Bibbs had a reception for the 16th consecutive game, matching Collin Franklin for most consecutive games with a catch by a tight end.
*Colin Downing had a career-long 64-yard punt in the third quarter.
