AMES, Iowa – Iowa State held a lead until No. 5 Oklahoma State's Jeff Carr pulled in a pass from J.W. Walsh with 3:06 remaining to put the Cowboys in front for the first time on their way to a 35-31 win Saturday night at Jack Trice Stadium. With the loss, Iowa State falls to 3-7 overall and 2-5 in Big 12 play. Oklahoma State remains unbeaten at 10-0 overall and 7-0 in league action.
The Cyclones got on the board early with Joel Lanning bolting into the end zone on a 24-yard scamper on the opening drive of the game to go up 7-0. After OSU responded on its drive, the Cyclones scored on their next three possessions to go in front 24-7 with 9:29 left in the first half. ISU sandwiched a Cole Netten field goal with touchdowns by Allen Lazard and Joshua Thomas.
OSU scored a huge touchdown near the end of the first half as Chris Carson scored on a one-yard plunge to trim ISU's halftime lead to 10 points at 24-14.
The Cowboys came out and scored on the first possession of the second half, but ISU again responded, this time with Lanning's second rushing touchdown of the game.
That would be all the scoring for the Cyclones as J.W. Walsh scored on a 16-yard run with 11:33 left and ISU couldn't hold the lead with Carr catching the winning touchdown.
Keys of the Game
The Cyclones controlled the first half, gaining 307 yards in the game's opening stanza. But at the end of the game, OSU had a 497-411 edge in total yards.
Much of Oklahoma State's yardage came through the air, outgaining the Cyclones 343-162 in that category. The Cyclones had the edge on the ground, picking up 249 yards compared to just 154 for the Cowboys.
The Cyclones had two chances after OSU took its first lead with 3:06 left, but saw one drive stall out on downs and the other end on an interception tossed by Lanning.
Players of Note...
Lanning gained 130 yards on the ground with two touchdowns while also passing for 162 yards and a score in his third start at quarterback. Freshman Mike Warren had 73 rushing yards, becoming the 13th different Cyclone to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.
Defensively, the Cyclones finished with three sacks and were led by an outstanding performance by nose tackle Demond Tucker, who finished with two sacks and four tackles for a loss. As a unit, the defense had seven tackles behind the line of scrimmage.
Levi Peters had ISU's lone takeaway of the game, forcing a fumble and recovering it in the third quarter that resulted in Lanning's 21-yard TD run.

*Announced attendance: 54,180. ISU sets a season average attendance record of 56,519.
*Iowa State's defense has recorded 26 sacks this season, its most since 2005.
*Quenton Bundrage is the 14th player in school history with 100 career receptions.
