AMES, Iowa -- The No. 11 Iowa State wrestling team (10-2, 6-1 Big 12) hosted the Last Chance Open on Sunday morning. In total, 19Â ISU grapplers finished in the top-6 at their respective weights, including championship performances from Ryan Leisure and Zane Mulder
It was a great field that competed at Lied Recreation Center that included 12 Division I teams.
En route to his title at 141 pounds, Leisure posted a victories over Notre Dame College's Kyle French and David Bavery before pinning Saul Ervin of SIU-E in 3:36 to take the title.
Freshman Zane Mulder put on a dominating performance at 165 pounds. The Grimes, Iowa, native wrestled to a 3-0 mark with a victory by fall, technical fall and a 6-2 decision over Northwestern's Erich Byelick in the finals.
Next Up
Iowa State returns to the mat on Thursday night when they take on No. 16 UNI in its Big 12 regular season finale. The dual between the Cyclones and Panthers is set to begin at 7 p.m. in West Gym in Cedar Falls. That dual will be streamed live on FloWrestling.
