AMES, Iowa – No. 7 Iowa State had six wrestlers make the finals and crowned four champions Saturday afternoon at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open inside Hilton Coliseum. A total of 11 Cyclones placed in the top four of their weight class at the tournament.
Ramazan Attasauov won the 133-pound championship with a 3-0 day, including a fall in the quarterfinals and an impressive decision over Northern Iowa's Corey Land in the championship match, 9-5.
Freshman Jacob Frost continued his strong start to the season at 141 pounds, winning his bracket and improving his record to 8-2 on the year. Frost defeated Northern Iowa's Connor Thorpe, 7-4, in the championship match.
Cam Robinson improved to 13-1 on the year with a 3-0 outing Saturday, resulting in a first-place finish at 149 pounds. Robinson recorded a major decision over Wisconsin's Aidan Medora, 14-1, in the semifinals before defeating Northern Iowa's Ryder Downey in the championship match.
It was an all-Iowa State final at 174 pounds between Julien Broderson and Joel Devine. It was a back-and-forth match, but Broderson prevailed, 6-5, to win the bracket. Iowa State took the top three spots in the weight class as Manny Rojas finished third.
