Simpson Named Spirit Squad Coordinator/Head Cheer Coach

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State has named Kendra Simpson its Spirit Squad Coordinator and Head Cheerleading Coach, the athletic department announced Monday.
"We are so excited to have Kendra join the team at Iowa State as our head cheer coach," Associate Athletics Director/Marketing Mary Pink said. "Kendra has a strong passion for cheerleading and Iowa State. Not only that, she also has an intimate understanding of the proud tradition of this program and what it means to cheerleaders, this university and Cyclone Nation. We are looking forward to the program's next chapter under Kendra."
Simpson brings 10 years of experience to the position, four years as a member of the team and six as an assistant coach.
During her six-year stint as the assistant at Iowa State, Simpson was responsible for instructing 54 athletes through high-intensity performance skills that include elite tumbling, stunting, baskets and pyramid structure. Additionally, Simpson helped facilitate kids' clinics, recruiting clinics, appearances and fundraising efforts.
Prior to accepting the head coaching position at Iowa State, Simpson also served as a special education behavior associate with Des Moines Public Schools and Ankeny Community School Districts. Simpson was also a USAIGC bronze-level coach at the U.S. Development Center II from 2014-16.
Simpson was a member of the Iowa State cheerleading squad for four years and was a captain from 2012-14. She graduated from ISU with a B.S. in Kinesiology – Exercise Science in December 2014.
