AMES, Iowa – No. 20 Iowa State (8-2, 0-0 Big 12) took the win over Central Michigan (3-6, 0-0 MAC) 82-56 Sunday afternoon to end the week 2-0.
Emily Ryan had the spark in the first quarter scoring 10 as the Cyclones set on the path to the 26-point victory. Audi Crooks put up a game-leading 19 points and 10 rebounds for her second straight double-double, while Addy Brown had a point total right behind Crooks with 18.
Ryan did a little bit of everything totaling 12 points (71 percent shooting) while adding six steals, six assists, three rebounds and a block in 24 minutes of play. ISU totaled 13 steals, its fourth game this season with 10-plus.
How it Happened
Crooks kicked off the contest with a layup off an offensive rebound, meanwhile Central Michigan answered with a triple on its next trip down the court. Arianna Jackson would put the Cyclones back ahead with a 3 of her own, and Ryan followed with a layup causing an early CMU timeout at 7:31. Ryan would make seven straight points as ISU extended a 13-0 run to lead 15-3. Ryan remained hot, muscling in a tough layup through contact while making her free throw, stretching a run to 12. At the end of one, ISU led 31-13.
After the Chippewa's deficit was extended to 20-plus (38-15), CMU called another early timeout at 7:40. At the half, the Cyclones led by 21 with the scoreboard at 49-28.
With the score at 53-33 with seven minutes remaining in the third, Kelsey Joens sunk a shot from deep and Brown followed with the Cyclones' fourth straight made shot. Iowa State held the 60-34 advantage at the media timeout while Crooks sent in two straight layups as the quarter drew to a close.
Entering the final quarter, ISU led 70-41. The Cyclones would hold the Chippewas scoreless for over four minutes as the play clock neared zero, and the game would end with ISU up 82-56.
Top Performers
Audi Crooks shot at 75 percent to total her 19 points in the contest while notching 10 rebounds. It is her fourth double-double this season and 12th of her career. Addy Brown totaled her 18 points at 8-of-16 from the field while adding four rebounds, an assist and a steal. Emily Ryan had her second game in a row with six or more steals. Ryan holds the school record with nine set in 2021.
