AMES, Iowa – The No. 6 Iowa State women's cross country team will have the chance to compete for a national title next weekend at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia. The Cyclones earned an at-large selection from the NCAA Selection Subcommittee on Saturday afternoon.
"I'm incredibly proud of our women for their performance at the regional meet and meeting our most important goal this season; returning to the NCAA Championship," said coach Cale Wallace. "I cannot wait for this group to toe the line Saturday and see how we stack up with the best of the NCAA."
The Cyclones finished third at yesterday's NCAA Midwest Regional behind No. 9 Oklahoma State and No. 11 Northwestern. ISU was missing Mercyline Kirwa from the lineup, the top finisher for the Cyclones at Nuttycombe and the Big 12 Championships, but Kirwa is expected to return for the NCAA Championships next Saturday. Betty Kipkore and Mercy Kibet paced Iowa State at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet, finishing third and fifth, respectively, and earned automatic bids individually to next Saturday's national championship meet.
Saturday will mark the Iowa State women's 27th appearance at the national meet and 14th in the last 17 seasons.
The women's 6K will begin at 9:20 a.m. in Columbia followed by the men's 10K at 10:10 a.m. Missouri will host the national championship for the first time at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course. Fans looking to attend the 2025 NCAA Championships must purchase tickets and parking ahead of time. More information can be found here.
