COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Iowa State's Mari Paz Alberto Vilar earned a three-set win to advance to the round of 16 in singles play after pairing up with Stanislava Shulzhenko and reaching the doubles quarterfinals Thursday at the ITA Central Sectional Championships.
Alberto Vilar and Shulzhenko cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win in the morning session against Kansas State's pairing of Maralgoo Chogsomjav and Zhanel Rustermova.
The win sets up a Friday 10 a.m., showdown with Northwestern's Mika Dagan Fruchtman and Neena Feldman, who defeated the tournament's top seed.
Alberto Vilar then earned a singles win by downing Notre Dame's Bojana Pozder, 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-3. She'll face Kansas' Kyoka Kubo Friday at 1 p.m.
Ashlee Narker fell to Oklahoma's No. Oyinlomo Quadre, the nation's No. 70 player, 7-5, 6-2.
