AMES, Iowa – Iowa State coach Matt Fannon has announced the hiring of Seth Junion, who has been named the team's soccer development coordinator.
Junion, a former collegiate goalkeeper at Xavier, comes to Ames boasting four years of collegiate coaching experience. He began his coaching career at Bellarmine back in 2021, where he spent one year as an assistant before being hired as an assistant coach at Western Kentucky where he spent the last three seasons.
"We are delighted to bring Seth into our squad," said Fannon. "He has a great attention to detail and an analytical mind that will really help to develop our women individually, as well as prepare us for matchdays. His abilities will complement and enhance our staff."
While at WKU, Junion helped the team with everyday training but specialized in mentoring and developing the team's keepers. He helped two Hilltoppers, Maddie Davis and Alexis Bach, become Second Team All-CUSA selections while also overseeing Davis's 2024 campaign, which resulted in her being named the C-USA Goalkeeper of the Year.
In his lone season with Bellarmine, Junion worked with the goalkeepers and helped with recruiting and training. In the team's second season competing at the Division I level, Junion helped the team secure five clean sheets.
Junion graduated from Xavier with a B.S. in Actuarial Science and a minor in Finance with a focus in Strategic Innovation in 2018. He currently holds a US Soccer C Coaching License as well as the United Soccer Coaches Goalkeeping III diploma.
The Iowa State soccer program will kick off its spring campaign on March 8 when it heads to Iowa City to compete against the Hawkeyes. The spring opener is set to kick off at 5:30 p.m.
