NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The women's distance medley relay team shattered the Iowa State record Saturday morning at the Alex Wilson Invite.
Iowa State won the event in 10:55.31, while runner up and host Notre Dame finished in 10:57.12. The time down's the 2014 record of 11:11.93.
Makayla Clark led off with the 1,200m leg, and handed off to fellow All-American Rachel Joseph for the 400m. Freshman Becca Heitzig took the baton next running the 800m, and Maelle Porcher anchored with the 1,600m.
The crew has now been a part of a combined 10 indoor and outdoor school records. Joseph and Clark are both a part of the indoor and outdoor 4x400m records, while Joseph owns three individual (indoor 400m, outdoor 400m, outdoor 200m), Clark owns three individual (indoor 800m, indoor 600 yard, 1,000m) and Porcher owns the mile record. Joseph, Clark and Porcher also total four All-America honors through their careers.
Iowa State's time ranks 17th nationally, while the top 12 qualify for NCAA Indoor Nationals. The current No. 12 time stands at 10:51.88.
The Alex Wilson Invite concludes regular season, with Iowa State next heading to Lubbock for Big 12 Championships Feb. 28 through March 1.
