FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Cyclones made a strong impression in the first two days of competition at the 2025 Big 12 Championships.
Head coach Matt Leach was pleased with the performance put on by the Cyclone squad. "Day one of the championship is always filled with nerves and we did a really good job at prelims and improving into finals," he said.
Time Trials
Abbi Crum competed in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.71 and a personal best.
200 Medley Relay
The group of Emma Kuhn, Grace Swoboda, Carley Caughron, and Andie Quirke started Big 12 competition with a bang and a second-best time in program history (1:39.96). Just .13 seconds away from beating the school record, the Cyclones finished ninth.
"This relay really started us out on the right foot and put some encouragement onto the team moving into the rest of the meet," Leach emphasized.
800 Free Relay
The Cyclones came out strong in the 800 free with a time of 7:27.25. Fallon DeWitt, Keirlyn Mullica, Megan Marquardt and Mallory Miller made up the quartet.
500 Free
Three Cyclones competed in the 500 free. Corinne Guist led the team with a time of 5:03.07 and a 42nd place finish while Winter Craig put up a season-best time of 5:05.05.
200 IM
Crum, Kuhn, and Miller delivered strong performances in the 200 IM. Crum secured 31st place with a personal best of 2:03.50, earning the 14th spot on the all-time top performers list at Iowa State.
Kuhn and Miller qualified for finals, finishing in 15th and 20th place, respectively. Kuhn climbed to sixth on the all-time top performers list (2:01.51) while Miller secured the ninth spot (2:02.02). Both swimmers broke their personal best times.
50 Free
Carley Caughron led the Cyclones in the 50 free and earned her spot in the finals. She ended the night in 18th place with a time of 22.98.
Lydia McClugage achieved a personal best time of 23.41, finishing 32nd in a field of 60 swimmers.
Diving
The Cyclones competed in the team event with the trio of Ally Blumenfeld, Kate Mitchell and Maggie Bendell, finishing sixth with a score of 262.55.
In 1-meter, Bendell qualified for finals and earned 15th place with a qualifying score of 237.20. Blumenfeld finished 22nd with a score of 226.50.
"We are really excited to see how we can keep improving moving into the rest of conference," Leach said. "The freshmen are stepping up, we have energy on deck for each swimmer, with some great seniors, continuing to lean on everyone."
