FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Cyclones carried their strong performances into day three of the Big 12 Championships, advancing to finals in three events.
Head coach, Matt Leach was excited about the performance moving into day four. "Today was a really big day for the Cyclones," he said. "In the preliminary session, we had a barrage of best times and amazing swims with a few people that just missed out of scoring. We had people step up and score big points for us tonight."
100 Fly
Carley Caughron led the Cyclones with a 24th place finish and a time of 54.64, after securing a spot in the finals.
Winter Craig finished close behind in 25th place, narrowly missing the finals. She posted a time of 55.15, just shy of her season best.
Keirlyn Mullica achieved a personal best time of 55.36, securing 33rd place in a field of over 50 athletes.
400 IM
Mallory Miller continues her impressive senior year with another personal best, climbing to 3rd place on the all-time top performers list with a time of 4:18.06. Miller was just six tenths of a second away from beating the school record. She ended in 11th place after competing in the finals.
Abbi Crum earned her second personal best of the meet, with a time of 4:25.45 and 14th spot on the all-time top performer's list.
Sophie Schmitz (4:25.60) and Anja Peck (4:26.02) followed Crum in 31st and 32nd.
200 Free
Megan Marquardt led the 200 free group with a time of 1:52.17, followed closely by Fallon Dewitt at 1:52.24.
400 Medley Relay
The team of Emma Kuhn, Grace Swoboda, Caughron, and Andie Quirke secured ninth place in the 400 medley relay, achieving a season-best time of 3:40.68. This performance ties for the fourth-fastest time in program history and marks the second time this group has earned a spot on the top performer's list at this meet.
"At the end of the day, we find ourselves ahead of West Virginia and looking to continue to add to the lead tomorrow," Leach emphasized.
3-Meter Diving
Freshman Maggie Bendell led the group of divers in 16th place with a qualifying score of 254.50. Kate Mitchell followed close behind with a 22nd place and a score of 229.75.
"Our divers also delivered on the boards with Maggie making a B final, her second of the meet, and Kate scoring in the C final," Leach said.
The Cyclone diving squad will continue their platform dives on Saturday, March 1st to complete their Big 12 Championship run.
