HOCKLEY, Texas - No. 29 Iowa State remains in contention after two rounds of the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship, as the Cyclones sit in fourth place in a heated battle. The top six teams in the standings, all ranked in the Top 30 in the country, are all within 11 strokes of each other entering the final day on Thursday.
The Cyclones and No. 19 Arizona entered the day tied for the lead. Iowa State shot a 294 in the second round, while Arizona shot a 295. No. 30 Oklahoma State took the lead, shooting a 285 in the second round and holds a two-stroke lead over No. 26 Houston. No. 15 TCU is third with a 577, just two strokes ahead of the Cyclones.Â
Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn continued to lead the charge for Iowa State on Wednesday, as the junior is tied for fourth with a 141 after shooting an even 71 in the second round. Chul-Ak-Sorn is just one stroke off the lead going into the final round. Chul-Ak-Sorn finished with birdies on the fourth and 18th holes,Â
No. 97 Pammy Chookaew moved up two spots with her second even round of the tournament. At 142, she is tied for sixth and just two strokes out of first place. Chookaew had back-to-back birdies on the front nine, while adding another one on the par four 17. Chul-Ak-Sorn and Chookaew each have 26 pars through 36 holes, tied for the second-most in the field.Â
Nichakorn Pinprayoon shot a 76 in the second round, as she is in a tie for 18th with a 146 over two rounds. Ranked No. 89 in the country, Pinprayoon had two birdies over a four hole span around the turn.Â
Keeley Marx shot in the second round, as she is tied for 34th with a 150. Marx had three birdies on the day, including two on the first four holes before finishing the day with another on the final hole.Â
In her first postseason competition, freshman Alexandra Vidal moved up seven spots in the second round after shooting a 77. She is tied for 54th with a 156 over the two rounds. Vidal led the Cyclones with four birdies on the day, including three on the back nine.Â
