AMES, Iowa – Iowa State senior Tamin Lipsey has been named to the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Men's College Player of the Year Watch List. Of the 52 players named to the list, Lipsey is one of 10 from the Big 12 on the list.
A 2024 AP Honorable Mention All-American, Lipsey is a three-time All-Big 12 selection. Off the court, he is a three-time CSC Academic All-American and the 2026 CSC Academic All-American of the Year. He was also named to the Allstate NACDA Winter Good Works Team.
Lipsey, a three-time Big 12 All-Defensive Team selection, averaged 13.5 points, 5.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game last season. He was the only Power Conference player in the country to average those numbers since 2022 and the first Cyclone to do so since Tyrese Haliburton in 2019-20. His 3.33 assist-to-turnover ratio was the seventh-best in school history, while his 2.3 steals per game were eighth in school history. He ranks fourth in school history with 77 steals last season, while his six games with five-plus steals were the most in school history.
The Ames native is the Iowa State career leader in steals with 313, while he ranks fourth in assists with 602. His 137 career starts are the most in program history, while his 98 career wins are the second-most in program history. Lipsey averaged 11.0 points, 4.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game over his 137 games as a Cyclone. He finished his career with 1,507 points, 602 assists, 518 rebounds and 314 steals, becoming the first player in Big 12 history to tally those numbers and just the fourth in the NCAA since 1986-87.
One of the best Cyclones of all-time, Lipsey was granted a temporary restraining order in the Daley vs. NCAA case by the Monroe County Circuit Court in Indiana, allowing for an extra year for his fifth season. Lipsey went undrafted in the 2026 NBA Draft, but played in the NBA Summer League with the Indiana Pacers. He appeared in two NBA Summer League games, starting both games for the Pacers before suffering an injury.
