DALLAS, Texas – For the first time in program history, the Iowa State Women's Golf team has won a Big 12 Championship. The Cyclonitas turned in one of the best postseason rounds in school history to claim the title, their first at a conference championship since winning the 1993 Big 8 title. Nichakorn Pinprayoon earned co-medalist honors, becoming the fifth Iowa State player to win a conference championship.
The Cyclonitas came out on fire and dominated the final day, shooting seven under par. Iowa State's 281 in the final round was the lowest in the field over the last three days, while it was the lowest conference championship round in school history and seventh-lowest round in Big 12 Championship history. Iowa State's 859 strokes marks the lowest amount in program history at the Big 12.
Iowa State came into the final round trailing by six shots, and with two Cyclones shooting in the 60's, they ended up winning the tournament by six shots. The Cyclones shot an impressive 49 birdies all together, which was the most by any team in the field.
Pinprayoon tied for the Big 12 individual title after making a crazy putt from off the green on the final hole. Pinprayoon's win marks the fourth Big 12 individual title in program history. Pinprayoon would not let up at all in the final round, shooting five under par, a tie for the second-lowest round in school history at a conference championship. Pinprayoon also snagged seven birdies, putting her total at seven-under par, making her three-round score (209) the third lowest in program history at a conference championship. Her 209 is the 10th-lowest score in Big 12 history.
Pammy Chookaew placed in a tie for eighth after shooting three-under in her final round. Chookaew found a groove on her back nine, going bogey-free with three birdies to help her team. Chookaew earned Big 12 All-Tournament honors for the third time in her career, becoming the fourth player in school history to do so. Alexandra Vidal battled all day, shooting an even-par round, placing her in a tie for 16th and totaling three over par. Vidal snagged three birdies in her final round, helping push her into a top 20 finish.
Isabella Yan shot a nice one-over final round to put her in a tie for 19th place. Yan also snagged three birdies on her day, helping her stay in the top 20. Rounding out the Cyclones was Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn after a three-over final round, tying Yan at four-over par overall and placing in a tie for 19th. Chul-Ak-Sorn added a pair of birdies in her final round to her scorecard as well.
