Cyclones Tied for Eighth After Day One of the Big 12 Championship

HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The Cyclones are tied with #38 Kansas for eighth place (292-283=575, +15) with two rounds to go at the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship. Iowa State moved up four spots from the first round after shooting the third-lowest round in a conference tournament in program history (283, +3) in the second round. ISU finished the first day in the top-half of the field in Par 4 scoring (7th, +16) and birdies carded (T7th, 28).
Paul Beauvy leads the Cyclones in scoring, carding a 71-70 (+1) to tie for 22nd after two rounds. Beauvy shot three-under in his final six holes of the day en route to his 20th par or better round on the season. The senior carded his 100th birdie of the season on the second hole of the day, helping him finish the day ninth in the field in birdies (9) and fifth in Par 4 scoring (-2). Zach May sits one stroke behind Beauvy, shooting back-to-back 71's to start off his Big 12 Championship tied for 25th. May totaled four birdies, making it 100 on the season, and tallied 27 pars, good for fifth-most in the field across his two rounds today.
Dianchao Wu shot a 71 in the second round to climb up to a tie for 49th (+6) at the end of day one. Wu carded six birdies on the day. Owen Sawyer was the third of three Cyclones to shoot a 71 in the second round, finishing his day tied for 58th (+8). With his first birdie of the day, Sawyer eclipsed the 300 birdie mark on his career, and then went on to tally five more birdies in the second round. Jackson McCommon rounded out the scoring for ISU, tying for 70th after the first day. McCommon totaled three birdies on the day.
Winners of last year's Big 12 Championship, #5 Oklahoma State ties a Championship record 546 (-14) to sit at the top of the team leaderboard after two rounds of play, shooting a Championship record -13 in the second round. The Cowboys' #3 Preston Stout finished the day eight-under par, looking to win a third consecutive conference individual title.Â
The third round of the Big 12 Championship will take place tomorrow morning, with Jackson McCommon kicking things off at 10 a.m. CT.
