SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Iowa State (4-1, 0-0 Big 12) took down Utah State (0-4, Pac-12) in four sets (25-20, 17-25, 28-26, 25-23) Friday night to end the California trip at 2-0.

Lilly Wachholz (18) and Nayeli Ti'a (11) once again hit in double figures, with Wachholz having her second-straight game with 10-plus and Ti'a her seventh. Wachholz hit at .484 on the night.

Rachel Van Gorp and Ti'a each had 10-plus digs, with Van Gorp leading with 16 and Ti'a saving 12 attacks.

SET ONE

Wachholz had two early kills and teamed up on a block as the Cyclones began up 3-2. ISU remained with the lead at 8-4 as Wachholz served to an ace, and shortly after D'Aaliyah Kemp delivered two-straight aces to force a Utah State timeout at 12-7. A kill by Kemp brought ISU to 20 points with Utah State holding 16, and the Cyclones went on to take the opener 25-20 on a block by Alea Goolsby and Kemp.

SET TWO

Kemp hit her fourth kill on as many attempts to knot things at 4s, but Utah State pushed on to take a lead of 11-7 to cause an ISU timeout. The Aggies reached 20 on a kill to make it 20-14, and kept with it to tie up the match with a set score of 25-17.

SET THREE
Two kills by Wachholz gave ISU its first points of the third, and the hitter put down another to make the scoreboard read 4-2. Wachholz would collect her 10th kill to make it 10-8, ISU, and the Cyclones reached 15 on an ace (15-10). Iowa State won a challenge to flip the score to 22-21 in favor of the Cyclones, while a tight contest followed. The set was brought to extra points, with ISU reaching set point four times before ending it on a Goolsby and Kemp block at 28-26.

SET FOUR

Back-to-back kills by Ti'a and one by Pam McCune gave ISU a slight lead of 7-6 but after a tie at 9s the Aggies took a run of three. Iowa State came back to square things up at 12-12 and again at 15s after Kemp brought in two more kills, remaining without an error. The score was put at 18-16, ISU, as Ti'a slammed down the kill and Utah State followed with a timeout. After Utah State went ahead 21-19, ISU took the next three to flip the lead another time. Ti'a remained at the service line as the Cyclones strung together a run of five, while the Aggies fought back scoring the next two. ISU would win the match at 25-23 on a successful challenge after a Utah State attack was ruled an error.
