Alex Self is in his first season with the Iowa State football program as the director of player personnel.
Self has worked in recruiting at both Washington State and Louisiana.
In 2025, Self played a major role in the construction of a roster that had 75 newcomers but still went on to finish 7-6 while winning the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
The Greensburg, Louisiana, native was a three-year member of the Louisiana football team as a linebacker. The Ragin’ Cajuns went 34-5 in his three seasons with the program before he moved into the recruiting efforts of the program.
Self earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 2023. He majored in education and human development with a concentration in sport management.
