- A star in the early years of Cyclone basketball, Wehde was the first Cyclone drafted by the National Basketball Association (Celtics, 1948)
- As a sophomore, he (along with his brother, Roy) helped Coach Louis Menze’s 1944 club to the Big Six title and a berth in the NCAA Final Four
- First-team All-Big Six honors twice (1944 and 1947)
- Led Iowa State in scoring two times, including his freshman season (1943)
- All-America in track finishing fourth in the 120-yard hurdles at the 1944 NCAA Meet
