HILO, Hawaii (AP) - Marcus Fizer was 9-for-11 from the field and scored 23 points to lead Iowa State to a 108-72 victory over Hawaii-Hilo on Friday night in the opening round of the Big Island Invitational.
The Cyclones (2-1) will play Arkansas, which beat Mercer 71-54, in Saturday's semifinals.
Stevie Johnson added 15 points, all in the second half, for Iowa State, while Martin Rancik had 13, and Michael Nurse and Jamaal Tinsley added 11 apiece.
The Cyclones shot 72 percent (23-for-32) in the first half and it wasn't all layups as they went 5-for-7 from 3-point range. They finished 43-for-68 from the field (63 percent).
The Vulcans (0-1) hung around for the first 10 minutes of the game but Iowa State's size and speed were too much for the Division II host school.
A 3-pointer by Rashard Williams had Hawaii-Hilo within 33-22 with 9:13 left, but the Cyclones went on a 16-2 run over the next five minutes. An 8-2 run to close the half gave Iowa State a 63-32 lead.
The biggest lead was 92-47 on a layup by Johnson with 9:10 to play.
Alan Thomas and Williams each had 13 points for Hawaii-Hilo, which shot 46 percent from the field (30-for-65) and was outrebounded 40-28.
