AMES, Iowa -- The Iowa State softball team fell 3-0 to No. 7 Nebraska Wednesday afternoon at the Southwest Athletic Complex. The Cyclones fell to 13-19 on the season and 1-4 in the Big 12 Conference. Sophomore Lindsey Herrin was on the mound for the Cyclones, her record falling to 3-3. It was her first complete game of the season. With the win, Nebraska's record improves to 25-8 and 3-4 in league play.
Nebraska's Peaches Harris picked up the win on the mound, striking out five batters and giving up five hits.
Nebraska outhit the Cyclones, 10-5, had only one error to ISU's two errors. The Cornhuskers got on the board in the second inning NU's Anne Steffan hit a double that scored Liz Lawhorn. Nebraska scored two more runs in the third inning on a homerun by Sheena Lawrick that proved to the difference in the game.
Herrin and junior Kelly Wardein led the way for ISU with a double each. Junior Julia Lindsey had four at bats and one hit, while the Cyclones also got hits from senior Molly McNertney and junior Ashley Core. ISU also had 21 putouts and 12 assists.
Iowa State will take to the road this weekend when it plays No. 4 Oklahoma in a weekend series. On Saturday, April 5, the Cyclones and Sooners will play at 1 p.m., on Saturday and will play again on Sunday at Noon.
