TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--Iowa State defeated Eastern Kentucky, 6-5, and fell to Saint Joseph's, 7-2, on Saturday at the Florida State Tournament in Tallahassee, Fla. The Cyclones are now 6-13 on the year.
In ISU's first game of the day versus Saint Joseph's, the Cyclones trailed 2-0 in the fifth inning when the Hawks exploded for five runs to extend their lead to 7-0. ISU scored its only in the runs of the game in the seventh. Sophomore Katie Reichling was 3-for-3 at the plate, but suffered the pitching loss, dropping her record to 2-4 on the mound. Senior Amber Wood drove in both Cyclone runs in the game.
In game two, sophomore Alyssa Ransom earned the pitching victory to improve to 4-8 on the year. ISU led 4-0 on strong by throwing by Ransom, who had a no-hitter going through the first four innings before allowing the Lady Colonels to score five runs in the fifth inning. After tying the game at 5-5, Cyclone freshman Stephanie Mosley provided the heroics in the seventh inning with the game winning hit, driving home classmate Ellen Buehner.
Iowa State plays again on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. (CST) against Florida A&M in its final contest of the Florida State Tournament.
