AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State had just one hit in the game but drew four walks and a hit by pitch in a three-run fourth inning to defeat North Dakota State, 3-1, in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader at the Southwest Athletics Complex.

The Cyclones (20-27) scored three runs on no hits in the fourth inning to take the win, snapping a three-game losing streak.

After Kristy Olsen grounded out to open the inning, Courtney Wray reached on a throwing error. North Dakota State reliever Andi Padilla then got the Cyclones' leading hitter Alex Johnson to fly out for the second out of the inning. Padilla then lost the strike zone, walking four of the next five Cyclone hitters and hitting the other as ISU bounced back from North Dakota State's run in the top half of the inning.

The Bison (21-17) had scored earlier in the fourth on a Jackie Currie single off Alyssa Ransom that scored Erin Troup. Troup pinch ran for Melissa Chmielewski, who led off the inning with a single.

North Dakota State starting pitcher Allison Bakke held the Cyclones hitless through the first two innings before she was forced to leave the game in the top of the third with a finger injury. Bakke singled to left field to lead off before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt by Grete Peterson. She injured her finger diving back into second on a pop out by Jennifer Morse and was pinch run for by Kelly Vivant.

Alex Johnson had the only hit of the game for the Cyclones, beating out an infield single in the fifth inning to break up the no-hitter.

Ransom (8-10) got the win for Iowa State, limiting the Bison to just one run on six hits. The Round Rock, Texas native had five strikeouts in the game to move into a tie for second all-time at Iowa State with Sue Wedemeier (1980-82) with 438 in her career.

Chmielewski finished the game 2-for-3 to lead the Bison.

Padilla (3-3) got the loss for NDSU, allowing three runs in 1 2/3 innings of work.
