STILLWATER, Okla. ? Oklahoma State had 15 hits to defeat Iowa State, 9-1, on Saturday afternoon in Big 12 action at Cowgirl Stadium.
Alysia Hamilton and Mariah Gearhart had three hits each to lead the Cowgirls (21-18, 4-3 Big 12), who took advantage of three Cyclone (24-19, 1-6) errors and a strong pitching performance by Sarah Odom (6-4). Odom allowed just five hits while striking out one.
The Cowgirls and Cyclones were tied at 1-1 after an inning and a half. OSU got on the board in the bottom of the first on a ground out by Megan Castle that scored Katelyn Bright. The Cyclones responded in the top of the second as Sydni Jones doubled up the middle to plate Amanda Bradberry, who reached base on an infield single.
That was all the scoring the Cyclones would get as Oklahoma State scored eight unanswered runs to take the 9-1 win.
The Cowgirls scored in every inning except the third. Oklahoma State's big inning was a three-run fifth, while the Cowgirls scored two in the second and fourth and one in the sixth to end the game.
The Cyclones collected five hits in the game. Jones finished 1-for-2 and drove in ISU's only run of the game for her 21st RBI of the season. Ariel Coburn returned to the starting lineup for the first time since being injured against Creighton on March 18 and finished 1-for-2. Bradberry, Alex Johnson and Kristy Olsen also collected hits for the Cyclones. Olsen stole her 10th base of the season and the 35th of her career after singling in the fifth inning.
Charissa Carlin (9-7) took the loss for the Cyclones, allowing five runs on nine hits.
The Cyclones and Cowgirls will meet again Sunday with first pitch coming at noon.
