NORMAN, Okla. - Iowa State fell to the No. 15 Oklahoma Sooners Saturday in Norman, Okla., 13-0, in five innings. The loss drops the Cyclones to 21-23 on the season and 3-10 in Big 12 play. Oklahoma improves to 37-16 overall and 9-8 in conference play.
The Sooners put eight runs on the board in the second inning starting with a Dani Dobbs lead-off solo homer. Chana'e Jones and Brittany Williams both hit two-run home runs in the inning. Jones was the final batter faced by Iowa State starter Rachel Zabriskie (14-15) who left the game after one and one-third innings, giving up five hits, three earned runs and walking one.
Oklahoma five more runs in the sixth, three on Iowa State errors.
Lauren Kennewell relieved Zabriskie, giving up 10 hits, nine runs, walking one and striking out one in two and two-thirds innings of work.
Keilani Ricketts (24-12) and Michelle Gascoigne combined for four and two-thirds perfect innings before reliever Kirsten Allen gave up a single to Anna Cole, her first batter of the day, in the top of the fifth. Allen got a groundout from second baseman Erin Johnson to end the game.
Ricketts struck out five in three innings before Gascoigne came in to pitch one and two-thirds innings, fanning two.
The Cyclones and Sooners are back in action on Sunday at noon CDT.
