COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Iowa State soccer team fell behind in the seventh minute and could not find the answer in its Big 12 Conference opening match. The Cyclones lost 3-1 to Texas A&M Friday at the Aggie Stadium.
Iowa State (6-4-1/0-1 Big 12) sophomore Brittany Morgan delivered her team-leading fourth goal at the 60:13 mark. Morgan's tally was her eighth point of the campaign, also a team high. Morgan led Iowa State with a career-high-tying six shots in the match.
Kelly Monogue put Texas A&M (7-4/2-0 Big 12) up 6:48 into the match. The Cyclones fought valiantly and took a 10-7 shots edge into halftime and also led 4-3 in shots on goal at the intermission. The two sides were level on corner kicks at 2-2 at the break.
The Aggies' Nora Skelton scored 4:51 into the second off an assist from Monogue to give Texas A&M the 2-0 lead. Monogue finished off her five-point night with a goal in the 57th minute.
Texas A&M went on have a 22-17 shots edge for the match and had a 6-2 advantage on corner kicks.
The Cyclones' Andrea Swanson made a pair of saves in just over 61 minutes of action. Her season record dropped to 3-2. Sophomore Maddie Jobe came on to make three saves in 29:47 minutes in goal for Iowa State.
The Cyclones continue conference action Sunday at 1 p.m. CDT at Texas. Iowa State faces the Longhorns at the Mike A. Myers Stadium.
