AMES, Iowa - Iowa State made 11 3-pointers and shot 54.5 percent in the second half en route to an 88-68 win over Campbell Sunday night in Hilton Coliseum.
Iowa State (3-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12 Conference) was led by Tyrus McGee, who poured in 16 points from off the bench. McGee was 4-of-7 from 3-point range, his second-straight game with four or more treys.
ISU's 11 treys was the 29th time in the Fred Hoiberg era where the Cyclones made 10 or more 3-pointers in a game. Will Clyburn added 15 points and a team-high eight boards in the win.
McGee provided the spark from off the bench to help the Cyclones lead at the break, 36-28. Campbell (2-2) held a 20-19 lead with 7:33 left before intermission until the Cyclones rattled off 14-straight points to move ahead 33-20.
McGee scored 10-straight points in the run and buried three first-half treys en route to a team-high 13 points in the first stanza.
Iowa State held a 66-48 lead after five-straight points from Georges Niang with 9:01 left in the game.
The Fighting Camels hung around, but never really threatened. CU cut the lead down to 11 points on a couple of occasions in the second period, but the Cyclone advangate never fell below 10 points.
Chris Babb tallied 13 points and handed out five assists in his first action of the season. Korie Lucious handed out nine assists, and he has dished out five or more assists in all three games of his Cyclone career.
Melvin Ejim had 13 points, all in the second half.
Iowa State is back in action on Tuesday night, playing host to North Carolina A&T. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
