AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State lost to Oklahoma State 11-1 in five innings on Friday afternoon at the Cyclone Sports Complex. The Cowgirls kept the Cyclones off the scoreboard the until the last inning of the game. ISU's record is now 17-22, 0-4 in Big 12 play and OSU's is 20-15 with a 2-5 conference mark.
The Cowgirls took control of proceedings in first two innings, creating two runs in the first and a home run by Randee O'Donnell in the second. The Cyclones had their chances to get back into the game, but stranded two runners on base each of the first three innings, while the Cowgirls cashed in an additional four runs in the third to move out of ISU's sight.
OSU Showed Up To Play
The game started out with the Cowgirls posting two runs and preventing the Cyclones from getting on the scoreboard. OSU's O'Donnell launched her home run in the second inning and was the only scoring play for either side, as the Cyclones stranded a pair of runners in scoring position.
By the third inning, OSU had loaded the bases with one out. The Cyclones elected to pull Katie Johnson and bring in Stacy Roggentien to be a stop-gap for the ISU effort. However, the senior hurler didn't fare much better, as she walked back-to-back Cowgirls to give them two more runs, before Shelby Davis brought home two of her own with a single to left, putting OSU ahead 7-0.
Mikkelson Home Runs
Oklahoma State kept the momentum going via the long ball. OSU's Tiffany Mikkelson led off the fourth inning with a home run off the scoreboard in left to get OSU ahead 8-0. The Cowgirls then kept ISU off the board again in the fourth.
With runners on first and second and one out in the top of the fifth, Mikkelson struck again, launching her 10th homer of the season comfortably over the centerfield wall to up the Cowgirl advantage to 11-0.
ISU Crossing Home Plate
Cathlin Bingham was the only Cyclone to run across home plate, coming home on a Lexi Slater groundout. Bingham, who went 2-for-2 on the afternoon, reach on a base hit up the middle, eventually making it over to third on Aly Cappaert's 11th double of the campaign before coming across home plate.
That was all that the Cyclones would receive as Maddie Reese grounded out to short to close out the game.
On Deck
Iowa State will play Oklahoma State again tomorrow at noon. The series will close out Sunday at noon with a third game between the Cyclones and Cowgirls.
