CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The Iowa State softball team (15-19, 0-3 Big 12) dropped a tight one on the road against instate rival UNI (25-11) on Wednesday by a score of 3-2.

Following a scoreless first inning, UNI put two on the board in the bottom of the second. The Panthers opened the frame with a pair of singles courtesy of Courtney Krodinger and Anna Varriano, in addition to a walk to load the bases. The first run of the game came across on a wild pitch. UNI added an additional run on a Cyclone fielding error to lead 2-0 through two innings.
Iowa State got on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Senior Aly Cappaert got it started with a single up the middle, followed by pinch runner Katie Dukes taking second and third on consecutive UNI wild pitches. After a walk for Sammie Hildreth to put runners on the corners, Nychole Antillon stepped to the plate. The sophomore smacked an RBI single up the middle to bring Dukes in to score, cutting the UNI lead to 2-1.
The Panthers answered back in the home half of the third with a run of their own, as Micalla Rettinger came home on a Cyclone fielding miscue, extending the UNI lead to 3-1.
Kaylee Bosworth drew a walk to lead off the fifth inning for the Cyclones, and was moved over to third on ground outs from Sally Woolpert and Gomez. Sophomore Niki Turner then entered to pinch hit and drove an RBI single up the middle, putting the Cyclones once more within a run of the Panthers at 3-2.
However, Iowa State was unable to pull even in the final two innings, falling by a final score of 3-2.

Iowa State will travel to Stillwater, Okla. for a three-game Big 12 series with the Oklahoma State Cowgirls. The first game of the series will be Friday, April 8 at 7 p.m. CT.
