- Iowa State will travel to Las Vegas for the annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. CKLV is one of the premier mid-season wrestling tournaments and will feature over 100 ranked wrestlers this year.
-At last year's tournament, Iowa State finished 12th place as a team. The Cyclones had four wrestlers finish on the podium with Lelund Weatherspoon taking fourth, and Markus Simmons, Chase Straw and Quean Smith all taking eighth place at their respective weights.
-Iowa State has three wrestlers receiving national rankings this week. Ian Parker (20, NR, 17), Kanen Storr (17, 19, 19) and Jarrett Degen (18, NR, 16) are all ranked in this week's FloWrestling, Intermat and the OpenMat polls.
-The Cyclones are coming off of a tough dual loss to No. 22 Rider. In the match, the Cyclones won five out of the 10 bouts, but the Broncs' three bonus-point victories were enough to push them past the Cyclones.
-Kanen Storr, Jarrett Degen, Dane Pestano, Sam Colbray and Marcus Harrington all picked up decisions in the dual.
-For Storr, Pestano and Harrington, they moved to 2-0 on the year with their wins. The trio has combined for 28 of Iowa State's 40 takedowns this year and are outscoring their opponents by a combined 66-24 in two contests thus far.
-Degen, who didn't wrestle in the opener, and Colbray each picked up their first dual victories of the season.
-There, nine Cyclones earned top-6 finishes in the Lindenwood Open Open Division, while redshirting freshmen Ryan Leisure and Marcus Coleman won titles at their respective weights in the freshman/sophomore division.
-ISU saw three grapplers reach the finals in their bracket. Ian Parker (133), Jarrett Degen (149) and Dane Pestano (285) all reached the finals and finished runner-up.
-Iowa State opened the dual season with a 21-16 loss to the Drexel Dragons. Iowa State won four out of the first six bouts, but dropped four straight matches to finish the dual.
-In the dual against Drexel, Iowa State got wins from Ian Parker and Kanen Storr, who were making their Iowa State debuts. They also received wins from veterans Dane Pestano and Marcus Harrington.
-Storr was electric in his first dual as a Cyclone. He was a point scoring machine, defeating Julian Flores by 22-7 technical fall. Parker won in a tight match over highly touted freshman Austin DeSanto. Parker won the match 7-5 behind nearly two minutes of riding time.
-Pestano rejoined the Iowa State lineup at 184 pounds. He was aggressive and took down Owen Brooks by 14-6 major decision. Harrington made his debut at heavyweight, dispatching Sean O'Malley by 12-2 major decision.
-The Cyclones opened the season with the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open. Ian Parker, Gavin DeWitt and Chase Straw all won individual titles, while Marcus Harrington finished runner-up.
-Athletics Director Jamie Pollard made a splash hire in landing Dresser last spring. Dresser then hired what he's calling his "Dream Team" in associate head coach Mike Zadick, assistant coach Derek St. John and volunteer assistant coach Brent Metcalf.
-The Iowa State roster is as youthful as any in the country. The Cyclones currently have 30 wrestlers who are freshmen or sophomores and only seven who are juniors or seniors.
-To go along with the youth, the roster also features many new faces. Of the 36 athletes, only 21 are returners from 2016-17. Dresser and company have added 16 new wrestlers for 2017-18.
-Hilton Coliseum will have a new look for wrestling this season. The team has elected to take down the partitioning curtain, and the entire arena will be open for home wrestling duals. They have also added new banners to the rafters highlighting all of Iowa State's "Trophy Finishes" (top four or better at NCAAs).
