Cancelled Event: Soccer versus #15 Memphis

10.17.2019 | Soccer
AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (3-11, 0-5 Big 12) fell to Oklahoma (8-5-3, 3-2-1 Big 12) in a tightly contested Big 12 match, 1-0. The difference in the game came in the 29th minute when OU's Kaylee Dao connected on a ball played into the box for her Big 12-leading 13th goal of the season.
Iowa State had their chances to equalize. The Cyclone attack had OU on its heels on several occasions. Megan Etrheim had a pair of first-half shots that teased the net, while Mira Emma and Hannah Cade each put a ball on goal, but couldn't get past the Sooner keeper.
Turning Point of the Game
OU's Hailey Davidson played a ball to the feet of Jazzy Richards who then put a great pass into the box, which Dao connected on to put the Sooners up 1-0. The Cyclones would threaten on a number of occasions, but that goal, midway through the first half, would prove to be the difference in the match.
Cyclone Game Ball Goes To…
Courtney Powell pushed the pace at the top for the Cyclones. The junior from La Porte City, Iowa, was a high priority for the back line of the Sooner defense. The Cyclones' midfielders did a great job of playing the ball up to Powell, taking advantage of her speed, but the Sooners were able to hold Powell and the Cyclones scoreless.
Coach Speak
"It's frustrating being on the losing end of a game like that because it was back and forth," head coach Tony Minata said. "It was a great match. We had our chances. Mira's shot looked like it was going in, but at the end of the day we have to clean up some technical issues and execute a little better, and we'll put the ball in the back of the net."
On Deck
Iowa State will turn around and host No. 15 Oklahoma State on Sunday afternoon at noon. The contest between the Cyclones and the Cowgirls will be available on Cyclones.TV.
