IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa State gymnastics team (9-6, 2-2 Big 12) took down the Iowa Hawkeyes by a score of 196.275-196.250 on Friday night. This was the first time the Cyclones have won at Carver-Hawkeye Arena since 2010.Â
The competition between the two schools was tight all night. Iowa State scored over a 49.000 on bars, vault and beam. The Cyclones saved their best team beam score of the season for the right moment. Iowa State moved into the final rotation with a small three-tenths lead and they were able to close to the door and beat Iowa.Â
The 196.625 was filled with impressive individual scores. Meaghan Sievers set a new career high in the all-around, earning a 39.475 while winning the vault, bars, beam and all-around competition. Sydney Converse set a season-high with a 9.875 on beam, while Molly Russ tallied the highest floor score with a 9.850.Â
Not only did Iowa State beat Iowa, tonight's score dramatically increases their NQS and postseason seeding for later this month. Head coach Jay Ronanye reflected on how special it was for the team to score this high and pick up a win.Â
"It was incredibly exciting gymnastics meet," Ronayne expressed. "It came right down to the end and the drama that everyone witnessed and felt was pretty awesome. It has been a long time since we have won at Iowa and I know the team is proud with tonight's accomplishment."
VaultÂ
Iowa State proved why they're a top-20 vaulting team in the nation by scoring a 49.250 tonight. Meaghan Sievers notched the highest ISU score by posting a 9.900. This is the second week in a row Sievers has scored a 9.900. Kelly Martin and Sophia Steinmeyer also had great vaults both scoring a 9.850. Phoebe Turner and Sydney Converse helped the Cyclones achieve their great team score by both adding a 9.825. Kelsey Boychuk led off for ISU scoring a 9.750.Â
Balance Beam
Iowa State recorded their best beam score of the season earning a 49.050 as a team to close out the meet. Meaghan Sievers had a career routine scoring a 9.875. Like Sievers, Sydney Converse also added a season high 9.875 to join her atop the beam podium. Grace Woolfolk recorded a massive 9.850 in the final spot of the lineup. Sophia Steinmeyer led off ISU with a 9.750 and Molly Russ posted a 9.700

Uneven BarsÂ
Iowa State opened the Cy-Hawk competition on bars and scored a 49.050. In her first official bars routine, Ana Palacios scored a clutch 9.825 in the anchor spot to seal the 49.050 team score. Meaghan Sievers has found her way back into the lineup and posted a 9.875 to earn the event win. To round out the Iowa State bunch, MJ Johnson and Laura Burns tallied 9.775s and Maddy Langkamp notches a 9.750.Â
Floor Exercise
The Cyclones scored a 48.925 during the third rotation on floor. Molly Russ earned the highest Cyclone score, recording a 9.850. Meaghan Sievers also had a fantastic routine finishing with a 9.825. Sophia Steinmeyer and Maddy Langkamp both tallied a 9.775 for Iowa State. Kelly Martin had a clutch routine to end the rotation by hitting a 9.700.Â

All-AroundÂ
Meaghan Sievers had a career night tallying a personal-best 39.475 to win the all-around competition. Sievers' 39.475 comes after not all-arounding in the last two meets.Â

Iowa State will be back in Hilton Coliseum on Monday, March 11 to host No. 1 Oklahoma at 6:30 p.m. This meet will be the second-to-last home meet the Cyclones will host this season.Â
