AMES, Iowa --Â No. 12 Iowa State (6-2, 1-1 Big 12) hits the road for a pair of Big 12 duals on Sunday afternoon. The Cyclones will travel to Fargo to take on North Dakota State (1 p.m.) and South Dakota State (3 p.m.) Both of those duals, as well as extra matches, will be streamed live on FloWrestling.

Cyclone STORYLINESÂ Â
-Iowa State announced the addition of a quadrangular dual meet on Feb. 14 featuring Arizona State, Northern Colorado and UNI. The dual replaces the previously scheduled event on Feb. 13 in Cedar Falls.
-The Cyclones moved up one spot in the NWCA Coaches Poll this week, checking in at No. 12.
-David Carr and Gannon Gremmel are both 8-0 to begin the season.
-NDSU and SDSU bring in a combined nine ranked wrestlers this weekend.
-Sidelined with injuries to begin the season, Coach Dresser has listed Jarrett Degen, Sam Colbray and Marcus Coleman as potential starters for Sunday's duals.
CYCLONE NOTEBOOK
Opening The Season
-Iowa State has begun the season 4-1 as it enters the meat of its Big 12 schedule. The Cyclones have scored wins over Wartburg, Loras, Nebraska-Kearney and No. 18 Oklahoma. ISU's only blemish on the year came at the hands of No. 9 Missouri.
Bonus Points
-In individual matches this season, the Cyclones are a combined 105-47 with 23 majors, five techs and 23 pins. The Cardinal and Gold are scoring bonus points in 49% of their wins thus far.
New Kids on the Block
-Iowa State's freshman class is already proving that they can compete at the next level. Rookies Kysen Terukina, Zach Redding, Cam Robinson, Ben Monroe, Cody Fisher and Yonger Bastida have all seen dual action.Â
Carr ChampÂ
- David Carr extended his winning streak to 21, dating back to December of 2019. During that stretch, he has accumulated six majors, four techs and four pins.
- Carr is the defending Big 12 Champion at 157 pounds. Last year he joined Lelund Weatherspoon, David Zabriske, Cael Sanderson and Joe Heskett as the sixth Cyclone freshman to claim a Big 12 title.
-In his first season in the varsity lineup, David Carr posted an 18-1 record and was a perfect 9-0 duals. His only loss in 2019-20 came at the hands of Northwestern's Ryan Deakin, who was set to be the No. 1 seed at the NCAA Championships.
- Carr made Iowa State history before ever taking the mat for the Cyclones. He won the 74 kg gold medal at the Junior World Championships to become Iowa State's first-ever Junior World Champion. He is the second Cyclone to medal at the Junior World Championships, joining Zach Thompson (Silver, 1998 - 90 kg).
Two-TimerÂ
- Jarrett Degen became a back-to-back All-American at 149 pounds last season. He was seeded No. 8 for the NCAA Championships. He finished the season with a 16-4 record, while going 5-2 in duals. He finished third at the Big 12 Championship to become a three-time NCAA Qualifier.
Parker PowerÂ
- Ian Parker was named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for his 4-3 victory over Dom Demas in the Oklahoma Dual. Demas and Parker are now 3-3 all-time against each other.
- Parker won the 2020 141-pound Big 12 title with a thrilling 4-2 win over OU's Dom Demas in sudden victory two. He was seeded No. 4 at 141 pounds for the NCAA Championships.
- Parker's only three losses last season came at the hands of All-Americans Dom Demas (twice) and Mitch McKee.
The Gremmel EffectÂ
- Gannon Gremmel has won 20 out of his last 21 matches while anchoring the Cyclone lineup. During that stretch, the All-American has toppled eight ranked opponents and has won five matches by major decision and one by fall.
- Gremmel closed out the 2019-20 season on an 11-match win streak before falling to Wyoming's Brian Andrews in the Big 12 Finals. He finished the year with a 24-8 record, leading the team in wins.
Back for More
- Entering his third season as the Iowa State head coach, Kevin Dresser had just one returning All-American and one Big 12 Champion on the roster. Now in his fourth year at the helm, Dresser returns two Big 12 Champions, six All-Americans and a combined total of 16 NCAA Qualifiers from eight different wrestlers.
- The Cyclones return 85% of their dual starts from the 2019-20 season and 76% of their dual starts over the past two seasons. In total, Iowa State returns 269 career starts with six wrestlers holding 28 or more career starts.
All-AmericansÂ
- With the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Championships due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the NWCA announced a first, second and honorable mention All-America team. Ian Parker, Jarrett Degen and David Carr were all named First Team All-America, while Alex Mackall and Gannon Gremmel earned Second-Team honors and Sam Colbray was Honorable Mention All-American. Iowa State now has 299 All-Americans in program history.
Nine is FineÂ
- Last year, Iowa State qualified nine wrestlers for the NCAA Championships. The Cyclones were one of six teams nationally to qualify nine or more wrestlers for the 2020 NCAA Championships.
Big 12 Breakdown
- Last season, Iowa State finished tied for the best regular season record (7-1) in Big 12-action. It was the most conference wins in school history. The Cyclones finished second at the Big 12 Championship with 116.5 points, which was the most points scored by a non-champion in conference history.
