AMES, Iowa -Â The 2021 season culminates with the NCAA Championships this weekend in St. Louis, Mo. Eight Cyclones are set to take the mat at the Enterprise Center. The ESPN family of networks will bring fans wall-to-wall coverage of the national championships, which are set to run from March 18-21.

Cyclone Storylines
- Iowa State qualified eight wrestlers for the NCAA Championships. It's the third season in-a-row that the Cyclones have qualified eight or more for the national tournament, the best streak since 2008-10
- Jarrett Degen became Iowa State's 46th four-time NCAA Qualifier with a fourth-place finish at the Big 12 Championship.Â
- David Carr and Gannon Gremmel were crowned Big 12 Champions at the conference meet in Tulsa.
- Kysen Terukina and Zach Redding will be two of 26 true freshmen in the field. Iowa State's two true-frosh qualifiers were the second most of any team.
- Three Cyclones are seeded in the top-8 in their brackets, No. 7 Ian Parker, No. 3 David Carr and No. 6 Gannon Gremmel.
I- owa State will be looking to crown its 300th All-American in school history at the 2021 NCAA Championships. The Cyclones' 299 AA's is the third most in NCAA history.

Catching Up With The Cyclones
- Iowa State finished third in a tight team race at the Big 12 Championship behind title performances from David Carr and Gannon Gremmel.
- At the Big 12 Championship, Zach Redding (3rd), Ian Parker (2nd), Jarrett Degen (4th), Carr (1st), Marcus Coleman (4th) and Gremmel (1st) all earned NCAA Championship births.
- Kysen Terukina and Sam Colbray qualified for the NCAA Championships with at-large bids.
- The Cyclones finished the season 9-3 on the year, including 4-1 in conference. The Cyclones posted wins over Wartburg, Loras, Nebraska-Kearney, Oklahoma, Iowa Central, Lindenwood, North Dakota State, South Dakota State and UNI.
Carr ChampÂ
- David Carr holds a 28-match win streak, dating back to December of 2019. During that stretch, he has accumulated six majors, five techs and six pins.Â
- Carr is a perfect 15-0 on the year with three majors, four techs and four pins. Seven of his wins have come over opponents ranked in the top-25.Â
- Carr is now a two-time Big 12 Champion. Earlier this month, Carr topped NDSU's Jared Franek by 8-2 decision to claim his second Big 12 Crown.
- The Canton, Ohio, native is now a two-time NCAA Qualifier. Last year, he earned first-team All-America honors from the NWCA.
- Carr made Iowa State history before ever taking the mat for the Cyclones. He won the 74 kg gold medal at the Junior World Championships to become Iowa State's first-ever Junior World Champion. He is the second Cyclone to medal at the Junior World Championships, joining Zach Thompson (Silver, 1998 - 90 kg).
Parker PowerÂ
- Ian Parker is 13-2 on the year with three majors, a tech and two pins. His only two losses came at the hands of No. 5 Dom Demas, who he beat earlier in the year, and No. 6 Allan Hart.
- The senior from St. Johns, Mich., is a three-time NCAA Qualifier. Last year, he earned first-team All-America honors from the NWCA.
- Parker was named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for his 4-3 victory over Dom Demas in the Oklahoma Dual. Demas and Parker are now 3-3 all-time against each other.
- Parker won the 2020 141-pound Big 12 title with a thrilling 4-2 win over OU's Dom Demas in sudden victory two. He was seeded No. 4 at 141 pounds for the NCAA Championships.
The Gremmel EffectÂ
- After finishing runner-up in 2020, Gannon Gremmel won the 285-pound Big 12 title in Tulsa earlier this month.
- The senior is 15-1 on the year with two majors and a pin. Five of his wins have come over ranked opponents.
- The Dubuque, Iowa, native has qualified for the national tournament three times in his career. Last year, he was award second-team All-America honors by the NWCA.Â
- Gremmel has won 27 out of his last 29 matches while anchoring the Cyclone lineup. During that stretch, the All-American has toppled 12 ranked opponents and has won five matches by major decision and one by fall.
Redding Or NotÂ
- Zach Redding finished third place at the Big 12 Championship in a bracket that featured 11 wrestlers ranked in the NCAA Coaches rankings. - At the Big 12 Championship, Redding went 3-1, scoring two majors over former NCAA qualifiers and knocking off two wrestlers ranked in the top-15 nationally.Â
- He's posted a 7-4 record in with three majors and one tech. His only four losses have come at the hands of opponents ranked in the top-20.
- Redding will be one of two true freshmen in the 133-pound bracket in St. Louis.
Four-Timer
- Jarrett Degen is a two-time All-American for the Cyclones. In qualifying for the 2021 NCAA Championships, he became Iowa State's 46th four-time qualifier in school history. Last year, Degen was named first-team All-American by the NWCA.
- At the Big 12 Championship, Degen finished fourth place to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
- Degen was sidelined with an injury to begin the year. Since rejoining the lineup, Degen is 6-3 on the year.
Home Grown
- Marcus Coleman is a three-time NCAA Qualifier from Ames, Iowa. He's compiled a 7-5 record on the year with five wins by fall.
- Coleman finished fourth at the Big 12 Championship and went on a pinning tear. In Tulsa, Coleman went 4-2, with all four wins coming by fall. He led the tournament in pins.
- His final pin of the tournament was over South Dakota State's No. 5 Tanner Sloan.
- Coleman was also sidelined with an injury earlier in the year and worked to beat out Yonger Bastida for the starting spot at 197 pounds.
Colbray's Climb
- Sam Colbray is now a three-time NCAA Qualifier. The Hermiston, Ore., native made the blood round in 2019 and was named an honorable mention All-American by the NWCA last season.
- Colbray finished fourth at the Big 12 Championship and qualified with an at-large bid.
- Colbray has compiled a 6-3 record on the year. His only three losses came to No. 4 Parker Keckeisen and No. 18 Alan Clothier.
- After starting the year on the mend, Colbray rejoined the Cyclone lineup for the final three duals of the season.
Tracking Terukina
- Kysen Terukina is another true frosh who has stepped up into the lineup for Coach Dresser this season. After beating out returning All-American, Alex Mackall, Terukina is 8-5 on the year.
- After finishing sixth at the Big 12 Championship, Terukina earned an at-large bid for the 2021 NCAA Championships.
- The Ewa Beach, Hi., native will be the only qualifier in the field that is from Hawaii.
Back for More
- Entering his third season as the Iowa State head coach, Kevin Dresser had just one returning All-American and one Big 12 Champion on the roster. Now in his fourth year at the helm, Dresser returns two Big 12 Champions, six All-Americans and a combined total of 16 NCAA Qualifiers from eight different wrestlers.
- The Cyclones return 85% of their dual starts from the 2019-20 season and 76% of their dual starts over the past two seasons. In total, Iowa State returns 269 career starts with six wrestlers holding 28 or more career starts.
